I never knew that there was such a car as a Nissan Axxess. That’s what this little project is all about: learning.

Toyota Pickup (Outer Sunset)
So this is two in a row for commercial Berkeley vehicles. But I’m certainly not going to discriminate against someone who puts “Wild Science” on their truck. God Bless those people from Tree Frog Treks.
Ford Econoline Moving Van (Outer Richmond)
Typically, I avoid putting commercial vehicles up, but these guys are actual artists, and it has that “I painted this in the street” look to it. According to the reviews on Yelp.com, these guys do a good job with the moving, so if you need that sort of thing in the Frisco, you know who to call.
Toyota RV (Seacliff State Beach)
A couple of quick notes about this stuffed animal laden motorhome:
- This is the second Berkeley vehicle I’ve acquired with the owner present. The first was a be-starred Vanagon in Berkeley proper.
- This is the first vehicle spotted by Mel while competing in a triathlon.
- This is the first vehicle that I’ve been told not to photograph. As I pointed the camera, a woman was walking behind me said, exasperated, “Don’t encourage him.”
While the sign on the back says, “Just Married,” there only appeared to be one human in the front seat. There was however a puppet that the driver was controlling. I’m sure this is what those Prop 8 supporters were scared of.
Toyota Corolla (Ocean Beach)
International School Bus (Ocean Beach)
With respect to art cars, a wise man once told me that San Francisco was like a whole ‘nother city. I’ve had luck in SF before, and with other artwork in the neighborhood, I thought art cars in Sunset would be as copious as in Berkeley. But Bear’s Trading Post here is the only one I’ve seen down here.
Car Artist contacts Realm of the Wombat!
Here’s a first: the owner of an art car featured on this site found her car and left a comment about it! Emily is a potter in Chicago who writes a pottery blog. So if you need any pottery done in the Chicagoland area, she’s who I recommend.
Saturn S-Series (Lincoln Square)
I like the bandages where this car has been dinged up. A few more cars like this, and I might have to rethink my opinion of this city…

Plymouth Sundance (Ravenswood/Uptown) / Jere Improvement Plan
Last week, I started a new incarnation of the Jere improvement plan. It involves riding my bike to work, a 17 mile trip from Lincoln Square to Hyde Park. I’m hoping to do this three times per week until the weather stops cooperating. It’s a pretty nice ride along Lake Shore, except for the wind in the morning. There are even outdoor showers at the 57th Street beach that I can jump under for a minute so I’m not so disgusting when I get to lab. Unlike some other improvement plans I know, this one’s got legs.
I received a sign that this was a good idea when I came picked up my first Chicago art car on my first ride. It’s no shark or tocalo, but for the midwest, I’ll take it.
