I’ve seen this fuzzed-out bike a couple times before, but sadly I was sans-camera. However, a few days back, Beaudry spotted it again as we came out of the BART station. Now I suppose I have to refer to them as “Berkeley vehicles.”

Dodge Colt (El Cerrito Plaza)
The first thing that stuck out at me about this car was the “Green Dog Democrat” bumper sticker. Using my powers of learning, i.e. Google, I now know that “A green-dog Democrat is a cross between a yellow-dog Democrat and a blue-dog Democrat — a moderately progressive, thinking Democrat who is liberal on some issues, moderate on some, a little conservative on some, ambivalent on some.” Check this site for more info. As for the artwork, it looks like a kid went crazy with poster paint.

Dodge Ram Van (South Berkeley)
I’ve seen this aquatic specimen around, but never in action. The owners did a significant amount of body work here, as the rear end of the van was removed to put in the ladder to the roof. Also, the addition of the fin behind the vehicle makes the fish unique even among Berkeley cars.

Ford Econoline Van (South Berkeley)
Thanks to Beaudry and Stache for the tip on this one. It took a couple months for me to follow up, but when I did, it was a definite score. “Just Right” here is about as psychadelic as they come. Interestingly, there are a few messages about Jesus, yet it has a yin-yang spare tire cover. Multi-denominational. I like it.

VW Beetle (Albany Waterfront)
Odie, Andy, Melissa, and I spotted this beauty at the Albany Waterfront Park, which is a strange enough place without a Berkeley car. It’s so detailed, I had to take several shots to give you the full effect of “Tocalo.” (Play it)

Honda Civic (Albany)
I think this Civic is for some high schoolers’ senior year or something, but I don’t know what school has Waldwick’s baby blue color around here.

VW Truck (Albany)
I found this hippie-mobile just around the corner from my apartment. This truck is the first Berkeley car I’ve seen that used wood. The theme appears to be an extension of the house’s motif. I like that.
Ford F150 (Fremont, Seattle)
I spotted this one from the back seat of Kim’s car as we were driving into Fremont, and luckily I ran into it later on to get a more comprehensive view. This is the natural counterpart to the turf Honda.
VW Beetle (Phinney Ridge, Seattle)
Apparently Berkeley cars are scattered along the west coast further than I thought. I saw two over a weekend in Seattle. The first one is this Pokemon Bug. It’s not just a card game anymore.

VW Bus (Albany)
This VW bus was just sitting outside my apartment one morning. I’ve never seen it before, so it must have just been visiting the area. Some of the features are skeletons, lines of skulls, matchbox cars, magnetic letters, pictures of Jesus, and an upside-down US flag.
