Day 4

The fourth day started by missing the Shakespeare walking tour, so we went to Westminster Abbey where we saw the tombs of the greatest English writers, scientists, and explorers as well as the kings and queens, and their brothers, sisters, cousins, third-wives, and uncle’s best friends. And Churchill. Mostly we pretended like we were Robert Langdon from The Da Vinci Code trying to find Newton’s missing orb.

I had to take another picture of Big Ben and the Eye. Next we went for lunch and decided to try to get into Parliament. This turned out to be a great idea. While we had to wait close to an hour outside in the balmy, March London climate and another hour inside the building, but after that, we heard some spirited testimony in the House of Commons and then a representative question the value of meeting in the House of Lords. And all of this was with British accents, so you can just imagine the fun. I couldn’t take any pictures inside Parliament, so the best I could get was us waiting outside.

Mike looks the most like he’s cold and wanting to go for coffee, when in reality that was Jack’s opinion.

Jack looks the most annoyed that I’m taking his picture from a short distance.

I look the most like I’m taking a picture of myself.

After leaving Parliament, I pretty much owned the place.

I think it’s time we got back to our own continent, before things get all King George III on us.

So that’s the story of my trip to London. It’s a little wierd that we had to travel across an ocean to all be in the same room at the same time, but I think we appreciated each other’s company a little bit more knowing that none of us were European.
